Colorado’s beauty deserves to be enjoyed by everyone, but always remember to follow guidelines and clean up after yourself. It’s close to my favorite mountain town, Telluride. It is only a 600 ft hike to the hot spring, but you are unable to see it from the Millon Dollar Highway. This is a hidden hot spring not typically discussed and difficult to find. Note: There was an avalanche in the area in 2019 that resulted in damage, but reviews state you can still access the hot springs. This hike is located near Pagosa Springs as well. If you go during the summer you will spot wildflowers and a waterfall on your hike. These Rainbow Hot Springs will take some work to access! The hike is a total of ten miles out and back. While you’re there check out Chimney Rock! Rainbow Hot Spring There are many pools of varying depths and temperature, all of which change constantly, so hopefully you find a warm one! They are typically flooded out by Spring. It’s a great alternative to the Pagosa Hot Springs with 25 pools. It is a 3 mile hike total along Sheep Creek Trail, out and back. This hot spring is located in Pagosa Springs. To find the exact location use this link here. They are located in Glenwood Springs and a perfect alternative if you’re wanting to avoid the crowds at Glenwood Hot Springs or Iron Mountain. There are no signs for the Hot Springs, but here is a detailed website with where to park. It is a very short hike from where you park. This hot spring is located south of Carbondale, along the Crystal River. I’d recommend going in July or August per the reviews here. The hot spring is located near Aspen, which makes for stunning views during your hike. Permits are required for camping in the area, so check out to purchase. However, you always have the option to camp. It is a 16 mile round trip hike, there and back. The most challenging hot spring to reach considering that it’s the highest hot spring in the U.S sitting at over 11,000 ft. Reviews state the water is typically at 80 degrees so more like a warm spring. Be aware of weather conditions when visiting because there is a rocky section that is steep in order to access the springs. They are located on the Colorado River in Kremmling. It can get very busy and it is very small so I suggest going on a week day if possible. This may be the most popular natural hot spring considering how close it is to Denver and the length only being 1.5 miles. ![]() Overall Spring typically causes overflow due to the snow melt causing water temps to drop. Some of these hikes may be more appropriate in the summer, where as others in the winter. You do have to hike to these hot springs so it’s important to take into consideration of the weather as rocks may be slippery with ice at times. Although these hot springs are free, be sure to leave them cleaner than you found them and always remember to pick up after your visit to keep these locations beautiful for everyone to enjoy. We left and will NEVER return.While there are a ton of Hot Spring Resorts in Colorado, it’s nice to get off the grid and have a more isolated experience in nature. There was no way we were going to pay $21 for an hour in the pool. We were extremely disappointed that there was no longer a Single Pass Entry option but we would need to buy a Day Pass ($21). We drove to Fairmont again the the Saturday (30th) for one last soak. From the springs, you can see the surrounding cliffs. Over the years, visitors have built a a small rock barrier between the springs and the river to contain the warm water coming from the spring. Another cold day so ice melt on deck and the lifeguards stayed in the building watching from the window, even though it was fairly busy and there was no way they could see the whole pool with the steam and the "mountain" in the middle of the hot pool. Radium Hot Springs is a small natural hydrothermal spring along the Colorado River. The pool was fairly busy but still enjoyable. The second time we went was in the evening after they reduce the admission price from $14.75 to around $8 and we lined up with all the other patrons waiting for the cheaper price. Due to safety issues there was ice melt on the pool deck which was painful on our feet. The change cubicles were painfully small and no hooks to hang your bathing suit on when changing after being in the pool. The lockers were very small for our winter coats, boots, towel bags, etc. They could use a few more benches inside for sitting on when putting on your shoes, etc (a couple higher ones would be nice for those of us that have bad knees). It appears that they have done recent improvements to the shower rooms.The shower rooms were nice and clean with ample showers. The first afternoon we went down the pool was not very busy. So we decided to try the Faimont Hot Springs pools. We were in Radium for our annual trip the week of Novembut unfortunately the pool was closed due to maintenance. ![]()
